German Club Movie Night

On the date of 12th November 2011, 40 student from German Club had been sponsored $5 per-person to enjoy a German Movie at The Cathay.

The fantastic movie that we watch there is ALMANYA-WELCOME TO GERMANY.

Description of Movie

ALMANYA-WELCOME TO GERMANY is a 2010 comedy film directed by Yasemin and Nesrin Samdereli. It won The Film Award 2011(Best Film Silver, Best Screenplay) and White Elephant Children’s Media Award 2011(Best Child Actor Rafael Koussouris). It is a delightful comedy about east and west. On 10 September 1964, Germany’s one millionth ‘guest worker’ was welcomed. Spanning a period of no less than forty-five years, this film by sisters Yasemin Samdereli(director) and Nesrin Samdereli(screenplay) tells the story of guest worker number one-million-and-one – a man named Hüsuyin Yilmaz and his family. “Who or what am I – German or Turk?” asks six-year-old Cenk Yilmaz when neither his Turkish nor his German schoolmates pick him for their respective football teams. In an attempt to comfort Cenk, his 22-year-old cousin Canan tells him the story of their grandfather Hüseyin, who came to Germany at the end of the sixties as a ‘ guest worker’ and who later brought his wife and children to ‘Almanya’. Germany had long since become the family’s home when without warning one night, Hüseyin surprises his loved ones with the news that he has bought a house in Turkey and now wants to return to the old country, Refusing to the brook the slightest opposition, the entire family set off for Turkey. This marks the beginning of a journey full of memories, arguments and reconciliations- until, that is, the family trip take an unexpected turn. This is really an interesting movie. It inspired us with lots of laughter and cultures over there (Germany and Turkey)

The movie ended around 9pm. And all of us do gain a lot of knowledge through this event.
For example, know how does building at Germany look like, how do they worn their shirt and how they speak.
As conclusion, this event successfully bond us together as one, so that we can make next event more grand and successful !
